Shopping at Cairns Central & Myer: Fashion, Homewares and Sale Finds

2024年6月5日

Cairns Central shopping centre in Australia

This time,

I want to share our shopping experience in Cairns, Australia.

Cairns has a large shopping centre called

Cairns Central

and a department store called

Myer,

where you can shop for fashion, cosmetics and more.

Myer can also be accessed from inside Cairns Central.

You can find clothes, homewares, food and just about everything else here!

From Shangri-La The Marina, Cairns,

where we stayed,

it took us around 15–17 minutes to walk there.

Sale Fashion — and the Seasons Are Opposite to Japan!

Myer at Cairns Central Australia

We first walked through Cairns Central

and went to

Myer.

As of 2026,

Myer Cairns is located on the Ground Floor of Cairns Central.

On Sundays,

Cairns Central opens at 10:30 AM,

while Myer opens at 10:00 AM,

so you can enter Myer 30 minutes earlier.

Myer sells beauty brands such as

Jurlique,

MAC

and Estée Lauder,

as well as

women's fashion,

men's fashion,

children's clothing,

tableware,

bed covers

and other home products.

Shopping at Review in Myer Cairns

First,

we looked at the clothes.

I had bought something before from this brand,

Review,

and wore it on a trip to Okinawa.

Because the seasons are opposite to Japan,

it was autumn and winter in Australia at the time,

so many of the clothes were in calmer,

more autumn-like colours.

Australia also has a wide range of clothing sizes.

The items we looked at ranged from

size 6 to size 18.

We had also timed our visit during a sale period,

so there were plenty of discounted items.

In the sale section we looked at,

there seemed to be quite a few items left in size 12 and above.

Trying on clothes at Myer Cairns

You can try clothes on too.

Floral dress at Myer Cairns

There were lots of floral designs like this☆

Australia has a reputation for being expensive,

but

during sale periods, you can sometimes find clothes at very good prices.

The Floral Tableware Was So Cute — and on Sale

Colourful tableware at Myer Cairns

Next,

we looked at the tableware.

Australian tableware was unbelievably cute!

If you like bright,

floral

or decorative designs,

I think you would love this section.

Teacups and tableware on sale at Myer Cairns

These cute teacups and dishes were

40% off when we visited.

I bought one as a souvenir for myself.

Plates and mugs on sale at Myer Cairns

These pretty plates and mugs were

50% off when we visited.

I remember thinking that

even a simple fried egg would look stylish

if you served it on one of these plates.

Floral cutlery at Myer Cairns

Even the forks and spoons were cute.

The packaging had flowers and birds on it too!

Even when the Japanese yen is weak,

shopping during a sale period can make a big difference.

If there is something you especially want to buy,

it may be worth checking sale periods before your trip.

Sale items and discount rates vary by season and date.

Colourful bird bottle at Myer Cairns

A bird bottle!

The colours were so bright and cute(^^)

It even had a built-in straw.

One thing we noticed about some Australian homewares,

though,

was that

they felt a little larger than what we normally use in Japan.

Large floral bottle at Myer Cairns

I think this was probably the kind of bottle you could use

to make iced tea or another cold drink

and keep it in the fridge.

It was so cute!

I had never seen one with such a pretty design in Japan.

I really wanted to buy it,

but because it was round,

I realised it probably would not fit

in the right-hand door section of our refrigerator at home.

So sadly,

I gave up.

Nightwear Was Heavily Discounted Too

Nightwear on sale at Myer Cairns

These pyjamas and lounge clothes were also

40% off when we visited.

The designs were brighter and more colourful

than many of the styles we usually see in Japan.

Men's Fashion Was Worth Checking Too

Men's clothing sale at Myer Cairns

Myer also sells

men's clothing,

bags

and underwear.

The men's section had sale items too,

and we bought a knitted hoodie at

50% off when we visited.

In our case,

a smaller labelled size than we would normally choose in Japan fit better.

Sizing varies depending on the brand and item,

so trying things on is the safest option.

While walking around Cairns,

we also noticed quite a few very tall men.

So if you are a tall Japanese man,

you may find some sizes

that are harder to find back home.

Cute Birthday Cards Make Easy Souvenirs Too

Birthday cards at Myer Cairns

Myer also had a section selling

birthday cards.

The designs were incredibly cute!

They were bright,

colourful

and the kind of cards that would make you happy to receive one.

I especially liked the

sulphur-crested cockatoo design,

which felt very Australian♪

Cute birthday cards were available not only at Myer,

but elsewhere in Cairns Central too,

so it is worth looking around for your favourite(^^)/

Our Shopping Experience at Myer Cairns

Myer Cairns shopping

There were plenty of sale items when we visited,

so we were able to find some good bargains.

I also loved how colourful and pretty so many of the designs were,

which made shopping really fun(^^)/

Credit cards were accepted too.

One thing to keep in mind is that

some shops close earlier than many shopping centres in Japan,

so it is worth checking the opening hours before you go.
