We stayed at Atami Pearl Star Hotel, one of the luxury hotels in Atami, Shizuoka.
In this review, we share our firsthand experience of the guest room, hotel facilities, dinner and breakfast, with plenty of photos.
The hotel enjoys an open location directly facing the sea, while the interior has an elegant and relaxing atmosphere.
We also enjoyed summer activities such as Japanese shaved ice and stand-up paddleboarding (SUP) in the sea of Atami.
Atami Pearl Star Hotel combines beautiful ocean views with refined hospitality, making it a wonderful choice for adult travelers, multigenerational trips, and those traveling with parents.
It is especially recommended if you are looking for a relaxing and sophisticated stay in Atami.

Japanese Shaved Ice Made with Local Shizuoka Ingredients

After checking in, we were welcomed in the lounge with Japanese sweets and Shizuoka green tea.
It was such a lovely touch and immediately helped us settle into the relaxing atmosphere of the hotel.

Afterward, we stayed in the lounge to enjoy the hotel's seasonal summer shaved ice.
The luxurious shaved ice desserts use ingredients from Shizuoka and were available in four flavors:
Benihoppe strawberry, Shizuoka matcha, Meyer lemon, and Mishima mango.
Each flavor highlights local ingredients from Shizuoka.

I chose the Shizuoka matcha shaved ice (¥2,200 including tax, excluding service charge).
Homemade ice cream was hidden inside the shaved ice, and it came with kuromitsu brown sugar syrup and fruit sauce so you could enjoy different flavors as you ate.
The salty-sweet mitarashi dango paired beautifully with the slightly bitter matcha.
It felt like a sophisticated Japanese summer dessert for adults.
The Shizuoka Meyer lemon shaved ice (¥2,200 including tax, excluding service charge) was served with mascarpone.
It had a refreshing flavor that reminded us of cheesecake.
The lounge is also open to non-hotel guests, so it can be a nice stop during a day of sightseeing in Atami.
At the time of our visit, Atami Pearl Star Hotel's shaved ice was offered as a limited seasonal menu through September 30.
Reservations were also available.

Atami Pearl Star Hotel Room Review: Private Open-Air Bath and Ocean Views

After enjoying the shaved ice, we headed to our guest room.
The lobby was beautifully designed and had an elegant, relaxing atmosphere.

Even the hallway leading to the guest rooms felt calm and sophisticated.
Relaxing Japanese-Modern Interior

Our room featured a Japanese-modern design with warm wood tones.
The beds were set over tatami flooring, combining
the peaceful atmosphere of a traditional Japanese ryokan with the comfort of a modern hotel.
Beyond the windows was Atami Bay,
creating a luxurious setting where we could relax while looking out over the sea.
Table and Chairs for Tea or a Little Work

The room had a low table and chairs,
which were convenient for enjoying tea or doing a little work.

There was also a daybed beside the window.
Being able to lie down and enjoy the ocean view was one of my favorite parts of the room.
Towels for the open-air bath were also provided.
Elegant and Luxurious Bathroom

The bathroom had double sinks, making it convenient for couples or families traveling together.
The dark-toned design of the bathroom
gave it a stylish and luxurious feel.

Amenities included shampoo and conditioner,
as well as skincare products such as lotion.

The shower room also featured a chic black design that matched the luxurious atmosphere.

Even the shower head had a stylish design.
Private Open-Air Onsen Overlooking Atami Bay

One of the highlights of our room was the private open-air bath overlooking Atami Bay.
Soaking in the bath while looking out over the sea felt wonderfully open and relaxing.
The bath uses Atami's hot spring water.
The mineral-rich water left us feeling thoroughly warmed and refreshed.
It was the perfect place to unwind after traveling and sightseeing.

There were also deck chairs on the terrace,
so we could lie back after the bath and enjoy the refreshing sea breeze.

Comfortable Roomwear for Your Stay

Both in-room clothing and clothing for wearing around the hotel were provided.
The material was soft and comfortable.
Plenty of towels were also available, which was convenient if you wanted to enjoy the bath several times during your stay.

This outfit could also be worn when going to the hotel's public bath.
Atami Pearl Star Hotel Club Lounge: Complimentary Drinks and Light Bites

Hotel guests can enjoy the club lounge at no additional charge.
The lounge has a calm and sophisticated atmosphere,
with alcoholic beverages, light snacks and coffee available to enjoy.

A Great Selection of Alcoholic Drinks

The refrigerators were stocked with several types of Japanese beer, including Premium Malt's, Sapporo and Asahi, as well as soft drinks.

What surprised us most was that champagne was also available to enjoy freely in the lounge.
We even saw well-known labels such as Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot.
It felt incredibly luxurious for a complimentary lounge service.

Of course, I had to try some too!
Light Bites and Snacks

Cheese, olives, mini tarts, ham and other snacks were available.
They paired nicely with the drinks,
making the lounge a pleasant place to enjoy a relaxing drink before dinner.
Perfect for Coffee Time Too

A Nespresso machine was also available.
You can make espresso or café latte whenever you like,
so the lounge is equally enjoyable for a quiet coffee break.

The club lounge is spacious,
so we were able to spend a quiet and relaxing afternoon there.
It is a particularly nice feature for travelers who prefer a slower-paced hotel stay.

Dinner at MIYOSHI: Japanese Cuisine Featuring Shizuoka Ingredients

For dinner, we enjoyed a Japanese course meal at MIYOSHI, one of the restaurants inside Atami Pearl Star Hotel.
Atami Pearl Star Hotel has five different restaurants offering
Japanese cuisine, teppanyaki, sushi, Chinese cuisine and French cuisine.
Large windows overlook the sea and the lights of Atami at night, creating a special atmosphere for dinner.

Seasonal Ingredients from Shizuoka

The course featured plenty of seasonal ingredients from Shizuoka,
allowing us to enjoy the flavors of the local region.
A Generous Multi-Course Dinner

The meal began with appetizers and continued with sashimi, steamed dishes,
fried dishes, meat, rice and dessert.
Some of Our Favorite Dishes

Fresh sashimi: The thick-cut tuna and Mt. Fuji salmon were wonderfully fresh and almost melted in the mouth.

Hida beef roast and beef sushi: The meat was tender and full of flavor, and paired beautifully with the special sauce.

Eel rice: The fragrant sauce soaked into the rice, making it a satisfying final savory dish.
Finishing with Dessert and Shizuoka Tea

To finish the meal, we enjoyed soy milk pudding with brown sugar tapioca,
a white peach and mandarin dessert with lemon cream and mint,
along with Shizuoka tea.

It was a wonderful way to end the evening, and we left feeling completely satisfied.
Breakfast Buffet: Japanese, Western and Chinese Dishes

Breakfast was served buffet-style.
The first thing that impressed us was the sheer variety.
There were Japanese, Western and Chinese dishes, with so many options that it was difficult to decide where to start.
Having so many choices made breakfast especially enjoyable.
Gentle Japanese Breakfast Options

Warm Japanese rice porridge was perfect in the morning.
There were plenty of condiments and Japanese pickles to enjoy with it.

Fresh sashimi was also available,
which was a lovely addition to the Japanese breakfast selection.
Freshly Baked Bread

There was also a large selection of bread, including croissants and Danish pastries.
If you enjoy bread for breakfast, there is plenty to choose from.
Everything we tried was delicious.
Fresh Omelets Prepared by the Chef

At the live kitchen, a chef prepares each omelet to order.
The fluffy texture and warmth of a freshly cooked omelet made it especially enjoyable.
Freshly Squeezed Orange Juice

You can also enjoy freshly squeezed orange juice.
Its refreshing sweet-and-tart flavor was a lovely way to start the day.
It is not something you find at every hotel breakfast buffet, which made it feel extra special.
Honey Tasting Corner

Several different varieties of honey were available, including cherry blossom and mandarin orange honey.
You can pair them with bread or yogurt and compare the different flavors.
It felt like a small honey tasting experience at breakfast.

We ate plenty and left breakfast completely satisfied.

SUP Experience in the Sea of Atami

After breakfast, we headed to ATAMI SUP near the hotel
to try stand-up paddleboarding.
Even though I am not especially confident when it comes to sports, I was able to enjoy the experience.
Simply getting out onto the sea felt incredibly refreshing.
It became one of my favorite memories of our summer trip to Atami.
Beginner-Friendly SUP at Atami Sun Beach

Atami Sun Beach, directly in front of the hotel, has relatively calm water and is protected by a breakwater.
That makes it approachable even for first-time SUP participants.
Lying back on the board and looking up at the sky was incredibly relaxing.
An instructor accompanies you during the experience,
so even beginners can participate with confidence.
No Equipment Needed

All the necessary equipment is provided.
You only need to bring swimwear or clothing that you do not mind getting wet.
Participants enter the water from a fishing boat ramp rather than directly from the sandy beach,
which also helps keep your feet from getting covered in sand.
Complimentary Photos During the Experience

The instructor also takes photos during the experience,
and the photo data is provided at no additional charge.
Being able to look back at photos of yourself out on the water makes for a wonderful travel memory.
Stay Package with a SUP Experience
Atami Pearl Star Hotel also offered a stay package that included a SUP experience.
Check-in is at 3:00 p.m. and check-out is at noon, allowing plenty of time to relax.
Guests can also enjoy facilities such as the club lounge and fitness club.

Why We Recommend Atami Pearl Star Hotel for Relaxing Trips and Travel with Parents
Atami Pearl Star Hotel is a great choice if you prefer
a relaxing hotel-centered trip rather than a packed sightseeing schedule.
You can enjoy tea, soak in your private open-air bath while looking over the sea,
or spend time enjoying a massage or light exercise.
One of the best things about the hotel is that you can have a satisfying trip without constantly moving from place to place.
(SUP is, of course, completely optional.)
The hotel has a calm and comfortable atmosphere,
which also makes it easier to slow down and enjoy time together.
We were extremely happy with our stay at Atami Pearl Star Hotel.
I would especially recommend it for a relaxing luxury getaway in Atami.

New Kaiseki-Style Wagyu Yakiniku Restaurant at Atami Pearl Star Hotel
Atami Pearl Star Hotel has also opened a new kaiseki-style yakiniku restaurant.
The restaurant is open to non-hotel guests as well and offers three different course options, ranging from a casual lunch course to more luxurious menus.
One of the most interesting features is the combination of Japanese kaiseki-style dining with yakiniku.
The spacious seating makes it easy to relax, talk and enjoy the meal together,
making it another appealing dining option for adults and multigenerational travelers.
