For the second and third days of our Phuket trip, we stayed at The Royal Paradise Hotel & Spa, a four-star hotel in the heart of Patong.
With 350 rooms, a pool, a spa and dining with views over Patong and the Andaman Sea, this is a large hotel in a wonderfully convenient location.
The shops, restaurants and lively streets of Patong are within walking distance.
It felt like we could enjoy both a holiday atmosphere and the convenience of being right in town!
We also met staff who spoke Japanese during our stay, which was reassuring for our group. Staff and available languages can change, so check with the hotel in advance if Japanese-language assistance is important to you.
Here is our honest account of two nights in Patong, travelling with someone in her 60s.
Our Triple Room and What We Paid

That was the price for our stay, not a current quote. Rates and room names may vary by date and booking site.
When three people travel together, someone often ends up with an extra bed.
Here, we each had a proper single bed! That was a big reason we chose this room.
Our Room: Details We Appreciated When Travelling in Our 60s
This is the approach to the hotel. The busy part of town was only about a three-minute walk away for us, making it easy to go out for meals or shopping.
And here is the entrance itself. It made a rather grand first impression!
The Ground-Floor Bar
This was the bar on the ground floor. The breakfast arrangements depend on the plan you book, so check your reservation for the current breakfast venue.
There were plenty of places to eat near the hotel, including some open in the morning.
We had breakfast at Number 6, a popular, affordable restaurant nearby, and I have written about that meal separately.

In the evening, you could enjoy a drink here while listening to live piano and singing during our stay.
We found Japanese-speaking staff at the hotel, so we could ask questions and request help arranging a taxi to the airport.
I asked the staff to arrange our airport taxi too.
A Calm Room and Comfortable Beds
Here was our room. Having three separate beds made it a good choice for our group of three.
I slept comfortably on both nights—the beds felt good!
There was a sofa for two...
...and a table, which was handy if we wanted to eat something we had bought while relaxing in the room.
A Desk and Mirror Where You Can Sit to Get Ready
The desk had a large mirror and a power outlet. It was convenient for drying our hair.
Being able to sit down to get ready is a small detail, but our traveller in her 60s appreciated it.
I thought, “Yes, this room gets it!”
A Bathtub Big Enough to Stretch Out In
The bathroom had a bathtub, a separate shower area and a toilet.
The tub was surprisingly roomy. It looked big enough for a man to stretch his legs out, too!
After a full day out, it felt wonderful to warm up and relax in the bath. For our group, the bathtub was a real plus!

What Was Provided—and Why I Brought Hair Treatment
Our room had toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, conditioner and body wash.
My hair tends to feel dry after washing it while travelling in Thailand, so I recommend bringing your favourite hair treatment, especially if you have medium-length or long hair.
Sunset Drinks with a View: A Lovely Surprise!
At check-in, we were given complimentary drink vouchers for the bar on an upper floor.
We went up for a drink and enjoyed the view.
The sea and the sunset looked beautiful. I could happily have stayed here a while, just taking it all in!

Will Patong's Nightlife Keep You Awake?
Just outside the hotel area, Patong has streets full of clubs and bars.
There were even street performances at night when we visited. The whole neighbourhood felt full of energy!
That location is fun if you want nightlife. But our traveller in her 60s had another goal: a good night's sleep! (Laughs.)
Club Music May Be Audible in Some Rooms
Because the area is lively, I would consider the room's position when booking.
A room facing a noisy street might feel different from the one we had.
Ask for a Quiet Room When Booking
If you would rather relax in peace at night, you can request a room away from outside noise.
You could write: “I would appreciate a quiet room away from street and club noise, if available.”
depend on availability, but it is worth asking.
How Was Our Room?
Happily, our room was surprisingly quiet.
We had no trouble with nighttime noise and slept comfortably until morning.
Watching Patong's youthful energy from the street was enough excitement for us! Back in our room, we enjoyed the peace and got ready for another day of sightseeing.
Where Is The Royal Paradise Hotel & Spa?
The hotel is in central Patong. These are approximate walking times from the hotel; your route and pace may differ:
- Patong Beach: About 5–8 minutes on foot.
- Bangla Road: About 5 minutes on foot for nightlife and entertainment.
- Jungceylon Shopping Center: About 5 minutes on foot for shopping and dining.
- Nearby streets: Plenty of restaurants, convenience stores and massage shops.

Getting Here from Phuket Airport
There are several ways to travel from Phuket International Airport to Patong. Times and fares depend on traffic, the operator and where you are dropped off, so check current details before travelling.
- Taxi or private car: Direct to the hotel. Allow around 45 minutes or longer when traffic is heavy, and confirm the fare before booking or boarding.
- Shared minivan: May be cheaper, but hotel drop-offs can make the trip longer. Confirm the route, fare and drop-off point at the airport.
- Hotel airport transfer: Ask the hotel about its current price and booking arrangements in advance.
We booked our hotel stay through Expedia. For a three-person trip, those three proper beds, the spacious bathtub and our peaceful room made a real difference. And that sunset view was gorgeous!
