Phuket may be best known for its beaches and resorts, but Phuket Old Town has a completely different charm.
Colorful historic buildings, photogenic shops, fashion boutiques and stylish cafés line the streets, making it a fun area to explore on foot.
In this article, we share our walk through Phuket Old Town, the colorful resort fashion and accessories we found, and our visit to the beautiful flower-filled Aungku Cafe.

Walking Through the Colorful Streets of Phuket Old Town
Phuket Old Town is a historic district known for its distinctive architecture and colorful streets.
Rows of pastel-colored buildings make the area feel almost like a storybook.
The charming Sino-Portuguese-style architecture is one of the main reasons simply walking around the neighborhood is so enjoyable.
This is the well-known clock tower in Phuket Town.
There are plenty of photogenic spots around the area, so we found ourselves stopping again and again to take pictures.
If you enjoy taking travel photos together, a selfie stick can be useful here.
Colorful Fashion and Unique Shopping in Phuket Old Town
One thing that really stood out to us was the amount of bright, colorful resort fashion.
We found vivid dresses, beaded bags, sparkling accessories and plenty of fun tropical designs.
After Phuket, we also visited Bangkok, but we personally saw a wider selection of this type of colorful resort fashion in Phuket.
There were many colorful resort dresses that would look great in vacation photos.
One of the joys of traveling is wearing colors and styles you may not normally choose at home.
Mamarin, our editor-in-chief in her 60s at the time of this trip, loves bright fashion and enjoyed looking for her favorite pieces.
Even if you do not buy anything, the shops are fun to browse.
We also found unusually designed basket bags.
Some were a little more expensive than we expected, but the designs were distinctive.
We later looked for similar bags in Bangkok, including at Chatuchak Market, but did not find the same selection.
If you see a design you really love in Phuket, it may be worth buying it rather than assuming you will find the same thing later.
There were also colorful shirts for men.
The shape may look similar to resort shirts found in places such as Hawaii or Okinawa, but the patterns had their own Thai character.
Children's clothing was available too.
We saw similarly bright fabrics only once in Bangkok, and the selection there was much smaller.
We actually regretted not buying some of the colorful pieces we saw in Phuket.
So if colorful resort fashion is something you are looking for, Phuket Old Town is worth browsing carefully.

Even the Goat Was Dressed Up!
We even spotted a goat wearing a cow-pattern outfit outside one of the shops.
Perhaps because of the heat, it was taking a nap.
It was such an unexpected little scene that we had to stop and take a photo.
Aungku Cafe: A Flower-Filled Cafe in Phuket Old Town
After plenty of walking, we stopped at Aungku, a café known for its elaborate floral decor.
Even the exterior immediately caught our attention.
It was incredibly cute before we even stepped inside!
There were plenty of people taking photos outside.
Once inside, there were flowers everywhere.
Dried flowers hung from the ceiling, while floral decorations covered large parts of the walls.
The café has two floors, and during our visit the more elaborate floral seating area was upstairs.
The ground floor had a counter and smaller seating area, so we preferred the second floor.
There were also plenty of pretty cakes on display.
The café was decorated mainly in pink and white, creating a very romantic atmosphere.
Almost every corner looked photogenic.
It felt a little like stepping into a dream.
And yes, we still get excited about places like this in our 60s!
There is no age limit on enjoying beautiful cafés.
We ordered a mango smoothie.
Compared with some other mango smoothies we tried during the trip, this one was creamier.
It was also decorated with an edible flower, which made it especially pretty.
The smoothie was on the sweeter side, but there were also lighter options such as soda-based drinks and tea.
Even the men in our group ended up looking rather photogenic in the beautiful surroundings!
There were also larger seating areas suitable for small groups.
If you specifically want a particular seating area, it may be worth checking with the café in advance.

Is Phuket Old Town Worth Visiting?
For us, definitely.
The historic streets, colorful buildings, fashion shops and flower-filled café made Phuket Old Town feel completely different from the beach-resort side of Phuket.

Phuket Old Town is a great place for travelers who enjoy colorful streets, shopping, cafés and a slower day of exploring on foot.
It reminded us that there is much more to Phuket than beaches and resorts.
