Best Massage of My Life? Ametis Villa Canggu Spa Review

One of the things I always look forward to in Bali is a good spa or massage.

I have struggled with stiff shoulders and lower back discomfort for years and have tried countless massages and spa treatments in Japan.

But at Ametis Villa in Canggu, I finally found one that made me think:

“This might be the best massage I’ve ever had.”

My husband loved it just as much as I did.

In fact, we both agreed that we would happily come back to Bali just to experience this massage again.

After two blissful hours, my entire body felt unbelievably light — I even noticed that riding my bicycle felt easier after returning to Japan!

The Best Massage of My Life? Our Ametis Villa Spa Experience

During our stay at Ametis Villa, we had both a 30-minute massage and a two-hour spa treatment.

And they were wonderful.

I had experienced many different massages and spa treatments over the years because of my stiff shoulders and lower back, but this one stood out.

It honestly felt like one of the best massages I had ever experienced.

A Relaxing 30-Minute Massage That Found All the Right Spots

The therapist seemed to know exactly where my body was carrying tension.

Rather than simply following a routine, the massage felt focused on the areas that actually needed attention.

I wore comfortable villa clothing during the treatment, so the whole experience felt very relaxed and casual.

Exactly What We Needed After a Tiring Start to Our Bali Trip

During the first part of our trip, we had stayed at another hotel where I had been bothered by insect bites, while my husband had not been feeling his best.

We hadn't really been able to relax completely.

That made our time at Ametis Villa — and especially the massage — feel even better.

It finally felt like our bodies could switch off and enjoy being on holiday.

Inside the Spa: Calm, Spacious and Perfect for Couples

This was the atmosphere inside the treatment room.

It was clean, peaceful and understated — exactly the kind of environment where you can forget about everything outside.

We could have our treatments together in the same private room, which makes the spa particularly nice for couples.

There was plenty of space, the beds were comfortable, and everything felt clean and well cared for.

Our Two-Hour Balinese Spa Experience

Because it included an oil massage, we changed into robes beforehand.

At the time of our visit, we could choose from three different fragrances for the treatment.

The experience began with a herbal foot bath.

After that came one of the most unusual parts of the treatment for me: a quiet healing ritual.

I sat with my eyes closed while sound was used as part of the relaxation experience.

It was quite different from the spa treatments I had experienced in Japan, and I found it incredibly calming.

Then came the Balinese-style massage itself.

And this was the part we absolutely loved.

“I Would Come Back to Bali Just for This Massage”

The massage was so good that my husband and I actually said to each other:

“We could come back to Bali just to have this massage again.”

That is how much we enjoyed it.

We had the treatment on the day we were leaving Bali.

Afterwards, my only regret was that we had not booked it earlier in our stay and done it twice!

Even after returning to Japan, my body still felt noticeably lighter.

I remember riding my bicycle and thinking,

“Why does this feel so easy today?”

Maybe it was partly the holiday mood, but either way, I felt fantastic.

Tea and… Salad After the Massage?

After the treatment, we were served tea and a salad.

I remember thinking that eating salad immediately after a massage felt a little unexpected!

But it was refreshing and made for a memorable end to the treatment.

More than anything, I remember leaving the spa feeling completely relaxed.

Would I Book the Ametis Villa Spa Again?

Absolutely.

Of all the massages and spa treatments I had experienced up to that point, this remained one of the most memorable.

What made it special wasn't only the massage itself.

It was the combination of the quiet treatment room, the slow pace, the healing ritual, the Balinese atmosphere and the feeling that we could finally relax completely.

If I stayed at Ametis Villa again, I would definitely make time for a longer spa treatment.

And this time, I wouldn't wait until the final day!

Ruby Spa continues to operate at Ametis Villa in Canggu.

The current spa menu includes traditional Balinese Massage in 60-, 90- and 120-minute options, along with other massages and healing treatments.
