One of the things I was most excited about during our Bali trip was the romantic dinner offered by Ametis Villa.
The idea of having dinner on the beach while listening to the sound of the waves felt almost too perfect.
Just imagining it made me excited.
That year was especially meaningful for us because I was celebrating my 60th birthday and we were also marking our 30th wedding anniversary.
No matter how old you are, celebrating a special milestone together can still feel wonderfully romantic.
So this became our very own version of a honeymoon — or perhaps a “full moon” trip for a long-married couple!

1. Relaxing in the Lounge Before Dinner
Before heading to the beach, we spent some time relaxing in the lounge at Ametis Villa.
The space was large and beautifully decorated with Bali-inspired furniture.
At the time, there were no other guests around, so it almost felt as if we had the whole lounge to ourselves.
That sense of privacy is one of the things I loved most about staying in a villa.
You can move at your own pace without constantly crossing paths with other guests.
The dress I wore that evening was something I had bought at a local market in Bali.
It was inexpensive, cute and incredibly comfortable.
Since it was a special evening, I decided to dress up just a little.
2. A Sunset Dinner on the Beach — with an “I Love You” Surprise
When we arrived at the beach, the sun was just beginning to set.
The view was beautiful.
Then I looked down at the sand beside our table and noticed something unexpected.
The words “I♡U” had been created with frangipani flowers.
It may have been the kind of setup usually prepared for honeymooners, but even as a couple celebrating 30 years of marriage, we both immediately said,
“Wow!”
For a moment, it made us feel like newlyweds again.
It became such a lovely memory.
The table flowers were also frangipani.
They were so pretty that I ended up putting one in my hair.
I remember joking,
“I’m 60, but that’s still okay, right?”
It is funny how something as simple as a flower can instantly lift your mood.
3. Our Dinner Menu — More Than Enough for Us
We toasted with the ocean in front of us and began dinner.

The meal was quite generous.
For us, in our 60s, it felt like a lot of food!
Younger travelers may find the portions just right, but we were definitely full by the end.
We started with a scallop and zucchini salad.
It was delicious.
Next came a creamy soup with bread.
Then came a refreshing sorbet as a palate cleanser.
The main dish was meat.
For us, it was cooked a little more than we usually prefer, so it felt slightly firm.
Then came dessert.
The decoration in the center reminded me of a cookie.
We finished with dessert and coffee while listening to the sound of the waves.
It gave us time to sit quietly and look back on the 30 years we had spent together.
4. Not a Honeymoon — Our “Full Moon” Anniversary Dinner
At one point, our butler asked us,
“Honeymoon?”
We laughed and replied,
“No, full moon!”
Meaning a trip for an older married couple rather than newlyweds.
That got a laugh.
At the end of the evening, we also took a photo with these wonderful dancers.
When we stayed there, we were told that it was possible to arrange dancers to perform privately as part of the experience.
This may no longer be available today, so check directly with the villa if this is something you are interested in.
A Romantic Dinner Is Not Just for Honeymooners
A beach dinner like this is not only for young couples or honeymooners.
I think it can be even more meaningful when you have already spent many years together.
For us, celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary by the ocean made the evening feel especially memorable.
You do not need to prepare much, but because the dinner takes place outdoors, I definitely recommend thinking about mosquito protection.

How We Arranged Our Bali Trip
