On our second day in Bali, my husband Masahiro and I joined a Nusa Lembongan snorkeling tour.
Because we had to leave early in the morning, the staff at our hotel kindly prepared a packed breakfast for us.
Little touches like that made the trip feel much easier.
Here is what the experience was like for us as a couple in our 60s.
【2026 Update】
As of 2026, many day tours to Nusa Lembongan still combine snorkeling, island sightseeing, lunch and other marine activities.
Snorkeling locations, activity times and inclusions vary by tour, and the schedule may also change depending on sea conditions.
This article shares our experience from the Nusa Lembongan snorkeling tour we joined during our trip.
Starting Our Nusa Lembongan Tour by Car

I took this photo from the car on the way to the boat departure point.
There were relatively few traffic lights in this area and the traffic moved quickly, so many of my photos ended up blurry.
This shop was selling Buddha statues and other decorative pieces.
There were so many different designs lined up outside.
Next, We Took a Boat to Nusa Lembongan

This photo was taken just before we boarded the boat to Nusa Lembongan.
Even here, I could already feel the relaxed Bali atmosphere.
From this point, we continued to the island by boat.

I always get excited when we reach the ocean.
The sea here felt quite different from Hawaii.
There was more of a natural seaside smell, and the sand reminded me a little of beaches in Japan.
But the water was still very clear.
What I Wore for Snorkeling in My 60s

My swimsuit was a camisole-and-shorts set.
I found this kind of style easy to wear in my 60s.
I wanted something comfortable and cute without feeling too exposed, so this style worked well for me.
Something like this:
Snorkeling in Nusa Lembongan

We put on our life jackets and started snorkeling.
There were plenty of fish in the water.

As soon as I looked underwater, I could see lots of coral.
It was beautiful.

Here I am snorkeling in my 60s.

During the tour we joined, there was a rope in the water that we could follow while snorkeling.
That gave me a reassuring reference point in the water.
There were some waves, so I was glad it was there.

We had it adjusted, and after that I was able to enjoy the snorkeling without any problems.
On a previous Hawaii trip, I had wished I had brought an underwater camera, so this time I bought one before traveling.
Thanks to that, we were able to take lots of photos in the sea.
An underwater camera or GoPro can be very useful for a trip like this.
If you want a cheaper option, you can also use a waterproof phone case.
We Could Enjoy Snorkeling Comfortably in Our 60s

When we joined the tour, the snorkeling session lasted around 20 minutes.
Because it was not too long, we were able to enjoy it comfortably even in our 60s.

We also saw plenty of colorful fish.
Trying a Marine Walk Underwater
In addition to snorkeling, we also tried a marine walk, where you wear a large helmet-like device and walk underwater.

Our marine walk lasted about five minutes, so it was over very quickly.
We Even Tried Paddling a Boat

We still had plenty of energy left, so we also tried paddling a boat.
It was relaxing to sit on the water and enjoy the scenery at a slower pace.
When we visited, marine activities in Bali felt more affordable than similar experiences we had seen in Hawaii.
Current prices vary depending on the tour and activity, so it is worth checking the latest rates when booking.
Lunch After a Morning of Marine Activities

Lunch was included in our tour, so after spending plenty of time in the water, it was finally time to eat.
There were several different dishes available, so we chose whatever looked interesting.

There was salad, spicy papaya, something similar to pilaf, and spicy chicken with a curry-like color.
I did not know the names of everything, but it all tasted good.

There was also a cat nearby, so we gave it a little food.
The cats I saw in Bali looked slimmer than the cats I usually see in Japan, and their legs seemed a little longer too.
We had a wonderful time in Nusa Lembongan.
For us, it was a very enjoyable destination as a couple in our 60s.
How We Arranged Our Bali Trip
Our flights, tours, hotels and villa arrangements were organized with the help of GOGO BALI.
This was our first trip to Bali and our first visit to Southeast Asia, so we had plenty of questions before traveling.
Their friendly and helpful support made us feel much more comfortable preparing for the trip.
