Sheraton Okinawa Beach Review: Relaxing at Sunmarina Beach After 60

For this Okinawa trip, we stayed at Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort again, following our stay there in January. We were so satisfied with our previous stay that this became our second visit (*´ω`*) This time, the theme of our trip was simple: to do nothing and just relax. Instead of packing our schedule with sightseeing, we spent slow, peaceful time at Sunmarina Beach, simply looking out at the sea. Right in front of the hotel is Sunmarina Beach, a beautiful white-sand beach stretching about 400 meters. For travelers in their 60s, I think one of the true luxuries of travel is not only sightseeing, but also enjoying quiet, unhurried time at the hotel and the beach. ※Facility fees and opening hours were checked again in September 2026. Relaxing at Sheraton Okinawa’s Beach|For Travelers Over 60, the Luxury of Doing Nothing Sunmarina Beach, located right in front of Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort, is a beautiful beach where you can easily enjoy white sand and crystal-clear water just steps from the hotel. At the beach, you can rent umbrellas and beach chairs. Currently, bringing outside beach umbrellas or beach chairs is not allowed, so if you want to use them, you need to rent them at the Beach Play Counter. Also, guests staying in the South Tower can use a parasol and beach lounge chair set free of charge. South Tower guests also receive other complimentary benefits, including the indoor pool, garden pool, public bath and sauna, and mini golf. ※Conditions may change, so please check the latest ...

Yamashirotei Okinawa Review: Agu Pork & Local Food Near Moon Beach

On the night we stayed at The Moon Beach Museum Resort, we had dinner at Yamashirotei, an Agu pork restaurant located just a short walk from the hotel. At first, we planned to go to another nearby restaurant called Ku-e-pu, which also had very good reviews, but it was fully booked. So we decided to try Yamashirotei instead, and in the end, I’m glad we did because the food was delicious and the prices felt quite reasonable. Yamashirotei is a restaurant where you can enjoy Okinawan dishes and Agu pork raised on the restaurant’s own farm. It is also a convenient dining option if you are staying near Moon Beach and want to try local food. ※The menu prices mentioned below were from the time of our visit. What We Ate at Yamashirotei Near Moon Beach Here are the dishes we actually ordered and enjoyed at Yamashirotei. Sea Grapes — A Must in Okinawa | ¥550 at the Time of Our Stay We started with sea grapes♪ They were ¥550 at the time of our visit. Whenever I go to Okinawa, I always want to eat sea grapes at least once. In Okinawa, restaurants often serve them in generous portions, which makes them even more satisfying. Surprisingly Mild Goya Salad | ¥440 at the Time of Our Stay Next was the goya salad. It was ¥440 at the time of our visit. This was actually my first time eating goya in a salad, and I was surprised at how mild it was. It was delicious ...

The Moon Beach Museum Resort Review: Rooms, Pools, Beach & Buffet

On our second trip to Okinawa that year, we stayed one night at The Moon Beach Museum Resort and one night at Sheraton Okinawa. This was our first stay at The Moon Beach Museum Resort. At the time of our stay, the room cost around ¥15,000 per night, which felt quite reasonable for a resort hotel. We also enjoyed the buffet and cakes, and the beautiful scenery made our stay especially relaxing. In this review, I’ll introduce the room, pools, beach, public bath, lunch buffet and other facilities based on our actual stay. ※Facility information, prices and opening hours were checked again in September 2026. Is The Moon Beach Museum Resort Old? A Historic Okinawa Resort Open Since 1975 The Moon Beach Museum Resort is a historic resort hotel that opened in 1975. Before our stay, I saw some reviews mentioning that the building felt old. However, when we actually stayed there, the hotel was very clean and well maintained. I also really liked the open, tropical resort atmosphere (*´ω`*) With its greenery and open-air architectural design, the hotel reminded me a little of a resort in Bali. The corridors leading to the guest rooms are open-air. There is plenty of airflow, so I imagine it feels wonderful on a warm, sunny day. However, the day we stayed was cloudy and surprisingly cold for Okinawa. On colder days, the open-air design can make the hotel feel even cooler. The resort itself is very spacious, and you can also see the atrium pool from the corridors. ...

Yokohama Chinatown Street Food: Giant Soup Dumpling, Peking Duck & Palm Reading

The day before, we had dinner at Manchinro in Yokohama Chinatown. Read our Manchinro Yokohama Chinatown dinner review Unfortunately, the weather that day was almost like a typhoon, so we could not really enjoy walking around Chinatown. We decided to come back the next day. This time, it was Saturday and the weather was much better, so Yokohama Chinatown was full of people. Popular restaurants can get busy on weekends, so making a reservation in advance is a good idea if you want a sit-down meal. But Yokohama Chinatown is also a fun place to enjoy without a restaurant reservation. You can simply walk around and try different street foods along the way. During this visit, we tried: A giant soup dumpling with shark-fin sauce A casual palm reading Street-style Peking duck Please note: Some prices in this article are from our 2023 visit. Current prices, products and opening hours may have changed. Giant Soup Dumpling at Kaikaro Yokohama Daisekai Our first stop was Yokohama Daisekai, one of the most noticeable buildings in Yokohama Chinatown. On the first floor is Kaikaro Yokohama Daisekai, a shop specializing in Chinese street food. We tried one of its large soup dumplings. Unlike a standard xiaolongbao, this dumpling is much bigger and is designed so that you can drink the soup inside through a straw. We chose the giant soup dumpling topped with shark-fin sauce. The dumpling was covered with a generous amount of soy-based sauce containing shark fin, bamboo shoots and other ingredients. First, we drank the hot ...

Manchinro Yokohama: Peking Duck, Shark Fin & Our Elegant Chinatown Dinner

We took a short one-night trip to Yokohama. Although Yokohama is easy to reach from Tokyo, staying overnight made the trip feel like a refreshing little getaway. This time, we had dinner at Manchinro Honten, a long-established Cantonese restaurant in Yokohama Chinatown. In this article, we share the full course we enjoyed during our visit in 2023, along with updated restaurant information. Please note: The dishes and prices shown in this article are based on our 2023 visit. Current course menus and prices have changed, so check the official website for the latest information before visiting. Dining at Manchinro in Yokohama Chinatown Unfortunately, it was raining heavily on the day we visited. The weather felt almost like a typhoon, so Yokohama Chinatown was much quieter than usual. We had seen many positive reviews of Manchinro, so we made a reservation in advance. Manchinro was founded in 1892 and is one of the long-established restaurants in Yokohama Chinatown. Today, it continues to serve Cantonese cuisine and emphasizes the natural flavors of its ingredients. During our visit in 2023, several course options were available. We chose the ¥8,000 course. The current menu and pricing are different, so the meal below should be viewed as a record of our 2023 experience. Our ¥8,000 Course Dinner in 2023 Everything we tried was delicious. For us, the portion size was just right, and we were able to enjoy the meal comfortably until the end. Travelers with a larger appetite may want to add an à la carte dish depending on ...

Kouri Island & Churaumi Aquarium Bus Tour Review Without a Car

This article continues our review of the Okinawa sightseeing bus tour visiting Manzamo and Nago Pineapple Park. Some of the stops and sightseeing times have changed since the time of our original trip. As of 2026, the main itinerary is: ① Manzamo: about 25 minutes ② Nago Pineapple Park: about 50 minutes ③ Okashigoten Nago: about 30 minutes ④ Kouri Island: about 30 minutes ⑤ Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium: about 150 minutes ※The order of stops and sightseeing times may change. In this article, we focus on our firsthand experience at Kouri Island, Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium, and Okashigoten. Even without renting a car, we were able to visit several of northern Okinawa’s most popular attractions in one day. The View from Kouri Bridge Is Amazing from a Tour Bus Look at this~~! The sea was such a beautiful emerald green. The view from the bus crossing Kouri Bridge was absolutely beautiful. We had visited Kouri Island by rental car before, but a sightseeing bus sits higher than a regular passenger car. That means you can enjoy a wider view of the ocean from a slightly higher position. And because you are not the one driving, you can simply enjoy the scenery and take photos along the way. Why We Recommend Kouri Island for Travelers Over 60 It was quite windy that day, and the forecast had been cloudy with rain, so we were a little worried about the weather. Luckily, the sun came out when we reached Kouri Island. The sea looked incredible. If you want ...

Okinawa Bus Tour Review: Churaumi Aquarium, Kouri Island & More Without a Car

On a previous trip to Okinawa, we rented a car. This time, however, neither my daughter nor I felt very confident about driving, so we decided to join a sightseeing bus tour. We booked a VELTRA day tour visiting Churaumi Aquarium and other popular attractions in northern Okinawa. The tour visits Manzamo, Nago Pineapple Park, Okashigoten, Kouri Island, and Churaumi Aquarium all in one day. In the end, we were very glad we chose the bus tour. Without having to drive, we were able to visit several popular sights in northern Okinawa efficiently. The current main itinerary is: ① Manzamo: about 25 minutes ② Nago Pineapple Park: about 50 minutes ③ Okashigoten Nago: about 30 minutes ④ Kouri Island: about 30 minutes ⑤ Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium: about 150 minutes ※The order of stops, sightseeing times, and prices may change. For Churaumi Aquarium, you can currently choose between a tour with an aquarium admission ticket and a tour without one. The tour also currently offers multilingual audio guidance in English, Chinese, and Korean. Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort Review: Rooms, Beach & Facilities

During our 2-night, 3-day trip to Okinawa, we stayed at Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort. To get from Naha Airport to the hotel,we used the Okinawa Airport Shuttle. It still stops near Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort today, at the bus stop called “Sunmarina Beach Mae.” From the bus stop, it is only about a 1-minute walk to the hotel, so it is convenient even if you are not renting a car in Okinawa. The Okinawa Airport Shuttle is a bus service that runs from Naha Airport through Onna Village toward northern Okinawa. You can reserve online in advance, and if seats are available, you may also be able to board on the day. Depending on your flight arrival time, it may also be worth comparing the Okinawa Airport Shuttle with other options such as the Airport Limousine Bus. ※Fares and timetables may change, so please check the official website for the latest information. Staying at Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort|A Lobby Filled with Fish Here is Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort. This beachfront resort in Onna Village, Okinawa, has beautiful white sand and Sunmarina Beach right in front of the hotel. Delta Economy Review: Tokyo to Honolulu in Our 60s

For this Hawaii trip in our 60s, we decided to fly with Delta Air Lines. Our flight departed at 7:25 PM. Before booking, I had read online reviews saying that Delta had good in-flight meals and even served Starbucks coffee, so that caught my attention. This was my first time flying Delta, and here is what I thought. At 158 cm, My Heels Did Not Reach the Floor At our seats, slippers, a blanket, an eye mask and earphones were provided, along with drink and food menus. The cabin interior featured Delta’s light blue branding.   The thing that stood out most to me was the height of the seat. At 158 cm tall, my heels did not fully reach the floor. Because my feet were slightly off the ground, I started to feel discomfort around my hips after about two hours and found myself changing position quite often.   My husband, who is around 180 cm tall, had a completely different reaction. He said the seat felt comfortable. That made me realise just how much seat comfort can depend on your height. Disney Movies and Plenty of Japanese Films This was the entertainment screen at our seat. I remember feeling that there was a good selection of Disney titles. That seemed especially useful for families travelling with children. When we flew in 2019, the Japanese movie selection included titles such as Every Day a Good Day, Recall, Shoplifters, One Cut of the Dead and Life in Overtime. There were quite a few Japanese films ...
