Unfortunately, the weather that day was almost like a typhoon, so we could not really enjoy walking around Chinatown.
We decided to come back the next day.
This time, it was Saturday and the weather was much better, so Yokohama Chinatown was full of people.
Popular restaurants can get busy on weekends, so making a reservation in advance is a good idea if you want a sit-down meal.
But Yokohama Chinatown is also a fun place to enjoy without a restaurant reservation.
You can simply walk around and try different street foods along the way.
During this visit, we tried:
- A giant soup dumpling with shark-fin sauce
- A casual palm reading
- Street-style Peking duck

Giant Soup Dumpling at Kaikaro Yokohama Daisekai
Our first stop was Yokohama Daisekai, one of the most noticeable buildings in Yokohama Chinatown.
On the first floor is Kaikaro Yokohama Daisekai, a shop specializing in Chinese street food.
We tried one of its large soup dumplings.
Unlike a standard xiaolongbao, this dumpling is much bigger and is designed so that you can drink the soup inside through a straw.
We chose the giant soup dumpling topped with shark-fin sauce.
The dumpling was covered with a generous amount of soy-based sauce containing shark fin, bamboo shoots and other ingredients.
First, we drank the hot soup inside through a straw.
So good!
The unusual way of eating it made it feel like a fun Yokohama Chinatown street-food experience.
During our visit in 2023, the shark-fin version cost ¥750.
A 2026 Yokohama Chinatown listing showed the same item at ¥900.

Trying a Palm Reading in Yokohama Chinatown
Yokohama Chinatown is also known for its many fortune-telling shops.
While walking around, we decided to try a palm reading at Ryuhou Senkan.
During our 2023 visit, the price was low enough that we decided to try it spontaneously.
We used to be more interested in fortune telling when we were younger, so this was our first palm reading in quite a while.
A few of the things we were told were:
- You will continue working throughout your life
- Try not to push yourself too hard
Of course, fortune telling is something each person interprets in their own way.
For us, it was simply a fun little travel experience.
Yokohama Chinatown has many types of fortune telling, including palm reading, tarot, Four Pillars of Destiny and other traditional East Asian systems.
If you are curious, it can be an entertaining stop during your walk through the area.

Street-Style Peking Duck at Yokohama Daihanten
Next, we stopped at Yokohama Daihanten.
During our 2023 visit, the shop was selling Peking duck as a convenient street-food item, so we decided to try one.
The wrap included Peking duck, cucumber and green onion with a sweet sauce.
It cost ¥300 during our 2023 visit.
Although it was not large, it was surprisingly satisfying.
We thought it was delicious and a good little street-food snack.
One of the best things about Yokohama Chinatown is being able to try small portions from several different places.

Yokohama Daihanten currently operates as a Chinese restaurant offering a wide range of dishes, including Peking duck.

Is Yokohama Chinatown Good for Street Food?
For us, definitely.
You do not need to book a full restaurant meal to enjoy Yokohama Chinatown.
Walking around and trying a few different foods can already make the visit feel complete.
What We Tried

- Street-style Peking duck from Yokohama Daihanten
- A relaxed walk through the lively streets of Yokohama Chinatown
The weather made a huge difference between our first and second days.
On the rainy day, it was difficult to enjoy walking around.
The next day, with better weather, Chinatown felt completely different.
If you are visiting Yokohama Chinatown, it can be fun to choose one or two foods you definitely want to try, then simply wander around and stop whenever something else catches your eye.
For a Sit-Down Dinner, Try Manchinro
If you prefer a slower meal in an elegant setting, we also had a Cantonese course dinner at Manchinro during the same trip.
It is a very different experience from street food, so the two work well together.
