On the second and third days of our Okinawa trip in our 60s,
we stayed at ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort.
We chose this hotel because it looked beautiful,
it is relatively close to Ishigaki Airport,
and the breakfast buffet looked delicious.
In this review, I’ll share our firsthand experience of staying at the hotel.
There is quite a lot to cover, so I’ve divided the review into two parts.
In this first part, I’ll introduce our guest room and the beach in front of the hotel.

Inside ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort and the Lobby

At the entrance of ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort,
there were marine-inspired decorations in various places.
They were stylish and gave the hotel a lovely resort atmosphere.

Sanpin tea, a popular Okinawan jasmine tea, and detox water
were available near the entrance.
Summers in Okinawa are hot and humid,
so it was very refreshing to have a drink after arriving at the hotel from the airport♡

ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort has two wings:
the Ocean Wing and the Bay Wing.
We stayed on the eighth floor
of the Ocean Wing.
Honest Review of Our Ocean Wing Room

The room was very clean and beautiful!
However, the bed felt a little short.
My husband is about 180 cm tall (5 ft 11 in), and his feet were almost at the end of the bed.
I even wondered whether taller international guests might find it too short.
We would have preferred a slightly larger bed.
If you are taller than about 180 cm,
it may be worth checking the bed size with the hotel before your stay.

There was also cute coral-inspired decor in the room.

Here is the bathroom♪
The bathtub was quite large
and spacious enough for taller guests to relax comfortably.

This is the separate shower area.
The water pressure was also good!
(As you would expect from an InterContinental!)
As for the shampoo and conditioner,
my hair felt a little dry after using the hair dryer,
so if that is something you are concerned about,
I recommend bringing your own hair treatment or conditioner.

This photo of the vanity was taken by Megumi.
There was also a magnifying mirror, which was especially useful for travelers in their 60s!
Having a magnifying mirror makes applying makeup much easier,
so we really appreciated this little detail (*´ω`*)
Body lotion was also provided.
Ishigaki Island is known for its very strong UV exposure,
so having body lotion available in the room was convenient for caring for sun-exposed skin.
Of course, I brought my own skincare products as well,
but it was still nice to have lotion provided by the hotel.

ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort also had a good selection of amenities.
I was surprised to find dental floss picks!
They were especially useful for travelers in their 60s.
Travel days can also be busy, and sometimes a nail can chip unexpectedly,
so I was happy to find a nail file as well☆☆

The minibar had a good selection of alcoholic drinks and snacks,
so you could enjoy a drink on the balcony while taking in the view.

There were three varieties of TWG Tea,
as well as Japanese green tea.

Views from the Room: Day and Night

This was the view from the Bay Wing
at ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort♪
The ocean looked beautiful (*´ω`*)
Imagine waking up and seeing this first thing in the morning!
It felt wonderfully luxurious.

This was the nighttime view from the room.
There was live music on the central stage from around 8:00 p.m.,
and sitting on the balcony with a beer
while listening to the music was one of the most relaxing moments of our stay♡

The breeze felt so good that I almost fell asleep (*´ω`*)

For comparison, this is the Bay Wing.
This wing is newer,
and I thought it looked very stylish and beautiful (*´ω`*)

The pool near the Bay Wing
also operated as a night pool,
and younger guests were enjoying swimming there in the evening.
There was music playing,
giving this area a different atmosphere from the Ocean Wing.

Honest Review of the Beach in Front of the Hotel

This is the beach!
Only the designated area marked off in the water was open for swimming.
If you swim outside the designated area,
staff may ask you to return to the swimming zone.

Compared with some beaches on Okinawa’s main island or Kohama Island,
the water was clear,
but the shoreline itself had quite a lot of rocks.

Perhaps fittingly for an island called Ishigaki, there were plenty of stones and rocks(笑)
I wouldn’t personally describe this as the most beautiful beach for swimming,
so if your priority is enjoying a postcard-perfect beach,
I recommend taking a ferry to Kohama Island or Taketomi Island.

The ground can also feel uneven when walking along the beach,
so stable sandals or shoes are a good idea (*´ω`*)

There are also plenty of hermit crabs on Ishigaki Island,
and we found a large one
on the beach at ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort!
On Kohama Island, we even saw some about twice this size.
Hermit crab lovers, keep an eye out(笑)
That concludes the first part of our
ANA InterContinental Ishigaki Resort stay review (*´ω`*)
